How to Convert to Islam and Become a Muslim

  • Talks on Islam:How to Convert to Islam and Become a Muslim

The notes come from an article on how to convert to Islam.  However we are going to compare what the Bible has to say on this issue:
The word “Muslim” means one who submits to the will of God, regardless of their race, nationality or ethnic background. Becoming a Muslim is a simple and easy process that requires no pre-requisites. One may convert alone in privacy, or he/she may do so in the presence of others.
If anyone has a real desire to be a Muslim and has full conviction and strong belief that Islam is the true religion of God, then, all one needs to do is pronounce the “Shahada”, the testimony of faith, without further delay. The “Shahada” is the first and most important of the five pillars of Islam. With the pronunciation of this testimony, or “Shahada”, with sincere belief and conviction, one enters the fold of Islam.
Upon entering the fold of Islam purely for the Pleasure of God, all of one’s previous sins are forgiven, and one starts a new life of piety and righteousness. The Prophet said to a person who had placed the condition upon the Prophet in accepting Islam that God would forgive his sins:
“Do you not know that accepting Islam destroys all sins which come before it?” (Saheeh Muslim)
    Forgiveness without accountability.
Upon what basis is these sins forgiven?  NONE.  How do they know their sins are forgiven?  THEY DON’T.  Who is to say a person could accept Islam one day and then reject it the next.  The Bible however gives us the basis upon which sins can and will be forgiven.  The shedding of blood and the death of the innocent was Gods way of building a foundation upon which man can come to know that their sins are forgiven.  There is no if, but, or maybe with God.  The foundation of faith is not based upon the mere words of a man but upon Biblical and historical evidence.  Islam does not have that.  The Bible lays principle upon principle, brick upon brick all the way from Genesis to Calvary and then to the Book or revelation.  So the foundation of redemption runs consistently throughout the Bible.  Every detail is there for a reason.  This consistency does not run through the Koran.
Christianity however has also in recent years fallen into the same lie as Islam.  Forgiveness without accountability.  It seems as long as we could get people to say the right words and nod at the right prayer we came to believe they were then converted to Christianity.  In reality words alone did not make the change.  God alone and the transformation of the Holy Spirit alone made the change.  When people cried out to God it was God who did the saving.  Man has no ability strength or power to save himself.  He must cry out to God to save or he will be lost.  Faith was never in our words we speak but in the living God who has the power to save and to forgive.   God is a moral God and is precise in everything he does and therefore lays down principles upon which we can know that God approves or  disapproves of something.
NOT GOOD DEAD OF RIGHTEOUSNESS BUT BY FAITH:
Salvation was never in trying to conform our lives to a religious institution, but in the transforming power of God which works mightly in the believer.
Rom 10: 3 For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.

When one accepts Islam, they in essence repent from the ways and beliefs of their previous life. One need not be overburdened by sins committed before their acceptance. The person’s record is clean, and it is as if he was just born from his mother’s womb. One should try as much as possible to keep his records clean and strive to do as many good deeds as possible.
The Holy Quran and Hadeeth (prophetic sayings) both stress the importance of following Islam. God states:
“…The only religion in the sight of God is Islam…” (Quran 3:19)
In another verse of the Holy Quran, God states:
“If anyone desires a religion other than Islam, never will it be accepted of him; and in the Hereafter, he will be in the ranks of those who have lost (their selves in the Hellfire).” (Quran 3:85)

It is clear then that Islam recognises no other religion but Islam and therefore it will not tolerate rivals.  In fact they make it clear anyone accepts any other religion accept Islam they will be lost.  I one sense here Christianity would hold to a similar testimony that says:
Gal 1: 8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
So either Islam is wrong or Christianity is wrong and there is no middle ground. Paul makes it clear that Islam is the one who is wrong.  For the Bible has the foundation history, consistency on salvation.  The Koran has no such evidence to hold up.  Jesus himself had this to say that unless a man is “BORN AGAIN HE WILL NOT SEE THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN”
John 3: 3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
Despite the fact that Islam claims to accept Jesus they give little heed to what Jesus had to say.

In another saying, Muhammad, the Prophet of God, said:
“Whoever testifies that there in none worthy of being worshipped but God, Who has no partner, and that Muhammad is His slave and Prophet, and that Jesus is the Slave of God, His Prophet, and His word which He bestowed in Mary and a spirit created from Him; and that Paradise (Heaven) is true, and that the Hellfire is true, God will eventually admit him into Paradise, according to his deeds.” (Saheeh Al-Bukhari)
The Prophet of God, may the blessing and mercy of God be upon him, also reported:
“Indeed God has forbidden to reside eternally in Hell the person who says: “I testify that none has the right to worship except Allah (God),’ seeking thereby the Face of God.” (Saheeh Al-Bukhari)

This would seem to suggest that people who testify to allah will not spend eternity in hell, is that not similar to purgatory?  Notice that it says that Allah will admit a person into Paradise “ACCORDING TO HIS DEEDS”  Now it is my conjecture that Muhammad was influenced by the Roman Catholic church, both for and against its institution.
Salvation based upon works.:  The Bible makes it clear that we can never be saved according to our works. Trying to establish their own righteousness they have not submitted to the righteousness of God,
Rom 10: 3 For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God
Christianity differs here from Islam in so far as we recognised that good deeds before God are not the basis for salvation, Good deeds come from being saved , but do not contribute to salvation.
Romans 3: 10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
Rom 3: 12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
For the Christian our righteousness comes not from our own good deeds, but from the life of another.  That is why Jesus came and lived a perfect sinless life.  His perfect righteousness would be attributed to the sinner, so that we now stand before a holy God in the righteousness won by Jesus.

The Declaration of the Testimony (Shahada)
To convert to Islam and become a Muslim a person needs to pronounce the below testimony with conviction and understanding its meaning:
I testify “La ilah illa Allah, Muhammad rasoolu Allah.”
    The translation of which is:
“I testify that there is no true god (deity) but God (Allah), and that Muhammad is a Messenger (Prophet) of God.”
As Allah is a false deity then confessing him as God is actually placing a curse upon your own head, rather than find God.

When someone pronounces the testimony with conviction, then he/she has become a Muslim.  It can be done alone, but it is much better to be done with an adviser through the “Live Help” at top, so we may help you in pronouncing it right and to provide you with important resources for new Muslims.
The first part of the testimony consists of the most important truth that God revealed to mankind: that there is nothing divine or worthy of being worshipped except for Almighty God. God states in the Holy Quran:
“We did not send the Messenger before you without revealing to him: ‘none has the right to be worshipped except I, therefore worship Me.’” (Quran 21:25)
This conveys that all forms of worship, whether it be praying, fasting, invoking, seeking refuge in, and offering an animal as sacrifice, must be directed to God and to God alone. Directing any form of worship to other than God (whether it be an angel, a messenger, Jesus, Muhammad, a saint, an idol, the sun, the moon, a tree) is seen as a contradiction to the fundamental message of Islam, and it is an unforgivable sin unless it is repented from before one dies. All forms of worship must be directed to God only.
Worship means the performance of deeds and sayings that please God, things which He commanded or encouraged to be performed, either by direct textual proof or by analogy. Thus, worship is not restricted to the implementation of the five pillars of Islam, but also includes every aspect of life. Providing food for one’s family, and saying something pleasant to cheer a person up are also considered acts of worship, if such is done with the intention of pleasing God. This means that, to be accepted, all acts of worship must be carried out sincerely for the Sake of God alone.
The second part of the testimony means that Prophet Muhammad is the servant and chosen messenger of God. This implies that one obeys and follows the commands of the Prophet. One must believe in what he has said, practice his teachings and avoid what he has forbidden. One must therefore worship God only according to his teaching alone, for all the teachings of the Prophet were in fact revelations and inspirations conveyed to him by God.
One must try to mold their lives and character and emulate the Prophet, as he was a living example for humans to follow. God says:

One must try and mould their lives… emulate the prophetIslam is a religion of works.  It cannot save the lost any more than trying to lift oneself by your own boot laces.  This is the tragic situation that many believe that by their deeds they can dictate how they will approach God.
Rom 11: 6 And if by grace, then [is it] no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if [it be] of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.
ROM 4: 4-5 NOW TO HIM THAT WORKETH IS THE REWARD NOT RECKONED OF GRACE, BUT OF DEBT.   But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.
This verse strikes at the heart of any works religion.  For if we have to work for it then it would be  of debt and not grace, however the Bible make it clear that God is no mans debtor.  Salvation can never be based on works.  Fundamentally this would mean that some would have an advantage over others.  The rich would have the abilities to do good deeds than the poor or the invalid.  Is that not what we see with those who travel to the Saudi Arabia and the Hajj.

“And indeed you are upon a high standard of moral character.” (Quran 68:4)
God also said: “And in deed you have a good and upright example in the Messenger of God, for those who hope in the meeting of God and the Hereafter, and mentions God much.” (Quran 33:21)

    SIN V GOODS MORALS.
In Islam the issue is trying to have a good character, but in the Bible the issue is that man is sinful and cannot be of a good character.   His righteousness is nothing more than filthy rags.  All have sinned and come short of Gods glory, every man has gone his own way.  There is none righteous no not one and that includes Muhammad as well. (Romans 3: )  So man has no ability to make himself right with God because his best is not good enough.
Muhammad’s character is therefore not a good character.  As we have seen the evidence from the Bible is that there is none righteous before God.  The example of the little old lady who lives down the street who bakes cookies for the boy scouts is still just as unrighteous before God as the vilest criminal who ever exists.  We might be horrified by this.  However that is because > SIN< is sanitized and moralised in our culture and we simply do not see it for what it is.  Sin is a blight that exists at the very core of our being,   a nature that resents any conformity to Gods law, a rebellion that seeks to establish his own way to approach his deity.  Many religions have a moral code of practice that seems admirable.  They have an outward conformity to practices, but there still burns in their nature that which resents that conformity.  They will adhere because it suits their purposes.

“He was sent in order to practically implement the Quran, in his saying, deeds, legislation as well as all other facets of life. Aisha, the wife of the Prophet, when asked about the character of the Prophet, replied:
“His character was that of the Quran.” (As-Suyooti)
To truly adhere to the second part of the Shahada is to follow his example in all walks of life. God says:
“Say (O Muhammad to mankind): ‘If you (really) love God, then follow me.’” (Quran 3:31)
It also means that Muhammad is the Final Prophet and Messenger of God, and that no (true) Prophet can come after him.
Muhammad is not the father of any man among you but he is the Messenger of God and the last (end) of the Prophets and God is Ever All-Aware of everything.” (Quran 33:40)
All who claim to be prophets or receive revelation after Muhammad are imposters, and to acknowledge them would be tantamount to disbelief.
We welcome you to Islam, congratulate you for your decision, and will try to help you in any way we can.

The last part is the rejection of Jesus to the worship of Muhammad.  Now Moslems would obviously disagree that they worship Muhammad.  But you can see by the way they elevate him upon a pedestal they actually do. Just as Christians seek to elevate and recognise Jesus, Islam would elevate Muhammad to a similar status.   Why is it so important that we believe that Muhammad has to be the final prophet why?   Because as a religion it is not God centred but man centred.    They place Muhammad in the place Jesus should be.  Jesus failed in his mission while Muhammad succeeded in his.
The Bible says if a prophet came along and gave a word and said let us go and worship another God we are not to believe him.   If Muhammad was a true prophet then he would have pointed to Jesus as the saviour of the world, instead he rejected the testimony God gives concerning his son.
FOR GOD NEVER LEAVES US WHERE HE FINDS US.
     Rom 3: 24-25  Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth [to be] a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
ROM 4: 4-7 NOW TO HIM THAT WORKETH IS THE REWARD NOT RECKONED OF GRACE, BUT OF DEBT. BUT TO HIM THAT WORKETH NOT, BUT BELIEVETH ON HIM THAT JUSTIFIETH THE UNGODLY, HIS FAITH IS COUNTED FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS. EVEN AS DAVID ALSO DESCRIBETH THE BLESSEDNESS OF THE MAN, UNTO WHOM GOD IMPUTETH RIGHTEOUSNESS WITHOUT WORKS.[SAYING], BLESSED [ARE] THEY WHOSE INIQUITIES ARE FORGIVEN, AND WHOSE SINS ARE COVERED.
For the believer we enter into salvation like a drowning man would reach out to a rescuer.  Helpless hopeless and lost.  No provision or goodness to recommend ourselves to one who is absolutely pure in everything he does.  Recognising that all we deserved was his wrath.  God forgiveness comes because we recognised there is one who can save and has the power to save.  Now salvation is not in some mere mental acknowledgement, but when God by his Holy Spirit begin to do a work of transformation within the believer.  Being born again is a supernatural work of Gods grace.  The door was opened by Jesus Christ, the final sacrifice for sin.  He purchased our redemption and we obtain it by asking for it.   We can know we have because his Spirit will witness to our spirits that we are the Child of God and God is our father.  The pwer of the gospel is not the believer trying to make himself righteous, he is righteous before God.  More so is that God will transform our lives to conform to Gods nature.  Jesus took Gods wrath and paid the debt we could not pay.  Therefore we rise with Christ into the newnest of life.
